Webb’s Auction House

Proudly Serving New Zealand – 48 Years & Counting

Established in 1976, Webb’s has a long and rich history. Founder Peter Webb began his career in the art industry as exhibitions officer at Auckland Art Gallery in the 1950s. He established Auckland’s first dealer gallery, Argus Gallery, which opened with Colin McCahon’s first Auckland exhibition in 1958. In the 1970s, Webb established a contemporary art gallery in his own name. He introduced art auctions as a sale format, and they proved highly successful. The business gradually transformed into a full-time auction house – the first in New Zealand to sell contemporary art at auction.

Peter and Ann Webb sold the business in October 2014. The business was acquired by Aucklanders Bruce Qin and Ewen Mackenzie-Bowie in 2018. The pair share the aim of furthering the legacy of Webb’s distinguished founder.

At Webb's, we don't just showcase items; we curate, present, and preserve pieces that start new journeys and become part of intergenerational legacies. The satisfaction of transferring an heirloom object from one home to another, ensuring it continues its story with a new owner, is unparalleled.

If you're driven by excellence, Webb's is the place for you. Be part of a team that celebrates artistry, values expertise, and thrives on the excitement of bringing significant objects to auction.
