The John B. Turner Collection of

Webb’s presents The John B. Turner Collection of Photography and Books, a single-owner sale drawn from six decades of collecting by the photographer, editor and educator who helped shape contemporary New Zealand photography. Included are works by Ans Westra, Peter Peryer, and Robin Morrison, alongside many other significant photographers of social history from New Zealand, China and the United States.
Part of John B. Turner’s practice as a photographer and photographic printer involved reprinting the glass negatives of prominent and unknown New Zealand photographers from the 19th and 20th centuries. He also ran numerous printing workshops for his students and contemporaries. Consequently, included in this auction are a variety of reprints made from original photographic negatives by other photographers, and some made as copies of rare analogue prints in the pre-digital era.
Also included are 800 lots of books and publications, among them more than 400 relating to art and photography, many of them rare and in excellent condition.

The Asian Art Live Auction : The Connoisseurs' Collection brings together approximately 200 works assembled by private collectors over several decades. Centred on Chinese porcelain and ceramics, the collection spans the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties through to the Republic period, alongside selected Japanese and Korean works.
Highlights include Song and Yuan wares from the Ge, Jun, Yaozhou, Qingbai and Longquan kilns; Ming blue and white porcelain; and Qing imperial and famille rose wares from the Kangxi, Qianlong and Guangxu periods. Early Meiji Satsuma ware and finely painted Republic period famille rose further enrich the selection.
Acquired through international auctions, dealers and private transactions, these works reflect the discerning eye of their collectors, with particular attention to form, proportion, glaze and condition.
