Staff Profile | Sean Duxfield
Webb’s is proud to announce the appointment of Sean Duxfield as our Christchurch-based Art Specialist. In this role, Sean will be leading Webb’s art initiatives in the South Island and will be the first port of call for any art related enquiries there, including: In-person appraisals, valuations, and helping individuals consign artworks to auction in a sensitive and professional manner.
Art in The South Island
The South Island has a long and fertile art history and as such, Webb’s continue to see strong interest in the work produced in this region. The recognition of the strength of work produced by artists from or in response to this part of New Zealand is increasingly translating into record-breaking prices in the secondary market and it is an incredible time to be involved with this momentum.
Sean Duxfield
Sean has over three decades’ experience within the arts sector in a wide range of roles. These have included: Working with the leading public art galleries in Christchurch, Auckland, Wellington and New Plymouth; a long-standing and award-winning association with the Venice Biennale; and also as co-chair of the Canterbury Society of the Arts/CoCA board and Trustee of the Bill and Pip Culbert Trust.
“These roles have granted me an invaluable vantage point from which to understand the arts ecosystem of the South Island,” said Sean, “as well as its wider importance and significant investment potential.
“I am very much looking forward to connecting with South Island collectors and buyers as well as organisations and artists hoping to leverage Webb’s strong brand awareness and premium marketing to reach large, national audiences and achieve unparallel results at auction. To me, this is a fantastic opportunity to extend the services that Webb’s offers by engaging and supporting people in this region.”
Sean’s appointment is part of a long-term strategic effort by Webb’s to extend their reach and service the wider regions of the South Island.
“Since its inception, Webb’s has been committed to championing artistic expressions from across Aotearoa,” said Paul Evans, Webb’s Managing Director, “our recent opening of a gallery space in Wellington and the appointment of Sean Duxfield in Christchurch continue our commitment to better understand and service the unique needs of those areas and further celebrate their invaluable voices. We look forward to seeing stronger representation of the South Island in our galleries with Sean’s expertise.”
